India consumes more than 4 MMT of base oil annually, but domestic base oil production remains limited to roughly 1.2–1.4 MMT. As a result, nearly 60–65% of base oil demand is met through imports. Meanwhile, India generates an estimated over 1.3 million tons of Used Oil annually, yet only around 15% is scientifically collected and re-refined. The remaining volume is either lost to informal burning, inefficient recovery, or untracked disposal pathways.
